Current Projects
Our first major project is to build a specialised Paediatric Unit at Peel Health Campus to ensure all children will receive excellent treatment in a facility designed specifically for children.
Sufficient funds had been donated by early 2009 to enable contracts to be placed for the building to be erected.
The Foundation is currently seeking additional donations to fund the fixtures and fittings required for the operation of the ward – which is scheduled to be opened in mid 2010.
Peel has the highest population of the State's regions.
Children under 15 years represent 20.6% of the Region's population. The projected population increase by 2016 is:
0-4 year age group – 62%
5-9 year age group – 38%
10-14 year age group – 37%
Up to now, Peel Health Campus has had no paediatric ward to cater for the growing children population. The rooms presently being used for children are designed for adult care and do not offer a continuous monitored safe environment for children. The rooms are attached to an adult Surgical Ward.
Our project is designed to rectify this situation.
Goals to improve our children’s services included:
- Attract specialised expert staff
- Increased security
- Comfort for parents and patients
- Décor suitable for young patients
