Current Projects
Our first major project has been to build a specialised Paediatric Unit at Peel Health Campus to ensure all children will receive excellent treatment in a facility designed specifically for children.
Peel has the highest population of the State's regions.
Children under 15 years represent 20.6% of the Region's population. The projected population increase by 2016 is:
0-4 year age group – 62%
5-9 year age group – 38%
10-14 year age group – 37%
Up to now, Peel Health Campus had no paediatric ward to cater for the growing children population. The rooms previously used for children were designed for adult care and did not offer a continuous monitored safe environment for children. The rooms are attached to an adult Surgical Ward.
Our project was designed to rectify this situation.
Goals to improve our children’s services included:
- Attract specialised expert staff
- Increased security
- Comfort for parents and patients
- Décor suitable for young patients
