VARIETY HONOURS FUNDING DEAL – 24th September 2009
The first part of a $150,000 agreement between Variety WA and Peel Health Foundation was honoured last week.
Variety WA Chief Executive Michael Pailthorpe handed over $75,000 as the first part of a deal struck between the organizations.
The plan to give Variety WA naming rights to two double rooms in the new 12 bed paediatric wing was finalized last year.
In return, Variety WA agreed to donated $75,000 when work on the building started and a further $75,000 when the ward is completed.
“Variety WA is thrilled to see construction start on this important project for the Peel Community”, Mr Pailthorpe said.
“Our contribution will support the creation of two twin bed rooms in the new ward”.
Mr Pailthorpe said the grant was made possible through proceeds from the annual Coleman Variety 4WD Challenge.
Foundation chairman, Arthur Marshall said he was “very pleased” to have the children’s charity involved.
WARD TAKES SHAPE AT LAST – 14th October 2009
FOUR years after the start of fundraising for the Peel Health Campus children’s ward, a major milestone was reached last week when concrete footings were poured.
After delays in arrangements between the State Health Department and the Foundation, the building contract was signed with local builders JM & ED Moore at the end of June.
Work on the connection of water, gas and electricity services to the existing hospital have been completed allowing for the laying of the foundations.
The completion date is expected to be next May.
Foundation Chairman Arthur Marshall said the community had banded together in an unprecedented way to raise funds.
The Foundation is now concentrating on raising additional funds for furniture, fittings and equipment.

CHILDREN’S WING FOR PEEL CAMPUS - 10th September 2009
MANDURAH will have a dedicated children’s wing at the Peel Health Campus by mid next year.
Construction has finally started on the paediatric ward after an ambitious plan was launched by the Peel Health Foundation four years ago.
Board Chairman Arthur Marshall said the Peel community deserved enormous recognition for its “extreme generosity” towards the building of the children’s ward.
“All kinds of organizations including schools, corporate and small businesses as well as individuals have donated or raised money to see this project get up and running,” Mr Marshall said.
“Our local community is to be congratulated for enabling this dream to become a reality.” Mr Marshall said it was important to keep fundraising as extra money was needed to cover fitting out the ward.
When finished, the 12 bed paediatric ward will be handed over to the State Government which will then hand administration to Health Solutions.
Deputy Premier, Health Minister and Dawesville MLA Dr Kim Hames congratulated everyone who was driving the project.
“The new paediatric until will be a real boost to the health services provided to the local community” Dr Hames said.
“The Government has committed just over $1 million to this important initiative and we will the foundation well in its continuing fundraising efforts.”
When complete the new ward will officially be known as the Ralph and Patricia Sarich Paediatric Ward.
