The Peel Portal is an online health community portal for the Peel region. Set-up by the Peel Health Campus Foundation (PHCF) and Global Health, the portal was set up as a means to raise additional revenue for PHCF, to go towards the promotion of health in the Peel Region.

Who is the target audience of www.peelhealth.com?

The Peel has an estimated population of 83,000, accounting for 4.25% of WA's population.
The Peel Region continues to be the fastest growing in Western Australia with the population increasing by 4.8% between 2004 and 2005 to total nearly 92,000 residents. This rate of growth can be contrasted to that for the whole of Western Australia which grew at 1.6% during the same period.

Between 1996 and 2004, the number of residents aged 50 years and over increased by 64.6 per cent in comparison with a 30.1 per cent increase in this age cohort for WA as a whole. Thus, while the Peel Region accounted for 4.4 per cent of the State's total population, in 2004, it accounted for 6.3 per cent of WA's population that is aged 65 years and over.
Another notable characteristic of the Peel Region's recent population is growth in the number of children, youth and young adults. Between 1996 and 2004, the number of persons aged between 5 and 24 years of age grew by 12.7 per cent in the Peel Region compared with a 0.6 per cent increase in this cohort for Western Australia over the same period.

Projected Population Growth (2004-2031)
In the decade to 2005, the Peel Region's population grew by 48% from just under 62,000 in 1995 and is projected to grow by another 40% over the next decade to total 129,000 in 2015. This growth can be contrasted to that of Western Australia's which is projected to grow by 16% over the next decade to 2015.
Projected Population by Age and Gender
Over the next five years to 2010, persons aged between 0 and 4 years are projected to increase at an average annual rate of 3% while more significantly those in the population aged 80 and over will increase at an average annual rate of 7.7% during the same period. For Metropolitan Perth, by contrast, those aged between 0 and 4 years old are projected to increase an annual average rate of 1% while those aged 85 and over are projected to increase at an average annual rate of 3% between 2005 and 2010.

The Peel region has had substantial economic growth in the last few years. Outside Perth Metro, it is recognised as Western Australia's most rapidly developing region. Major development opportunities are already in progress. They include the development of the Mandurah Ocean Marina precinct, as well as a variety of resort developments. Other developments include major residential canal areas and residential golfing estates. Some of the region's major competitive advantages are its close proximity to the metropolitan area, strong telecommunications infrastructure, availability of greenfields sites and its low competitive cost structures. Prices for goods and services are equivalent to the Perth metropolitan area.
How do we drive traffic to www.peelhealth.com?
- Announcement of and online registration for PHCF Fundraising Events. PHCF holds several fund raising activities throughout the year from auctions to charity dinners to marathons, golf competitions, etc. Each activity gets tremendous support from PHCF's sponsors and is well attended by the community. With the Peel Portal, all PHCF events will be promoted through www.peelhealth.com. Those wanting to register or participate in the events have to go to interested the portal. Similarly, those who want details about PHCF and its events can go to www.peelhealth.com for more information.
- TV Advertising. The PHCF has been generously supported by Channel 9's Appealathon. As part of their ongoing support, Channel 9 has produced a TVC (TV Commercial) to launch www.peelhealth.com and has donated airtime for it. The Peel Portal Launch TVC will air for the whole month of July 2006. In addition to this, future TVC's for PHCF will also mention www.peelhealth.com thus providing continuous promotion of the portal through an impactful medium.

- Print. To coincide with the TVC airing, sponsors Mandurah Mail and Mandurah Coastal Times have generously donated advertising space in their publications for press releases on the Peel Portal. A ‘wrap-around' was implemented with the Mandurah Coastal Times to provide a more impactful announcement on the portal's launch.

- Radio Promotion. Local radio station 97.3 FM Coast FM regularly provides PHCF with the opportunity to promote events and activities. This provides PHCF with another major medium to promote the portal.
- On-going online competitions and offers. Several online competitions are being planned for www.peelhealth.com. These competitions will all direct the audience to the portal in order to participate. Attractive prizes will be offered to generate interest. With the help our our sponsors, offers and promotions will be an on-going feature in www.peelhealth.com. A special section will be devoted to this where Peel residents can visit and regularly check for value added offers from local Peel businesses.
